Over the years the movie has become somewhat of a cult classic. We all have experienced the division that makes up our high school years. We recall the "geeks", the "popular" kids, the "jocks" etcetera. I'm not exactly sure where I fit in, but I know where I didn't. Can't Buy Me Love depicted it all and at the end of the movie showed that all kids have more in common than not. I guess that's why it's been one of my favorites over the years. To this day, if I happen to see it on TV I'll stop and watch or tivo it.
The death of Amanda feels like the death of what could have been. It's weird because I know it was a movie, but when you see some of the characters go off and become a success as adults you feel like you've grown with them like you went to high school with them. When someone your age dies, even when you don't know them it still gives you a bit of a stop. We all know one thing for sure, that our lives will not last forever but when we see that one is over at such a young age it puts things into perspective.
RIP Amanada Peterson!
