Today, when I heard it on the radio in the midst of a tribute to Prince all of those feelings rushed back. As I was driving home, I kept wiping away the tears. I thought about the tape I recorded off of the radio in the 80's when they were doing a Prince marathon. In the words of Biggie "I let me tape rock/till my tape popped". Yet another piece of my childhood has gone. Thankfully, the songs will last forever.
It's crazy because you know, artist come and go. But, there's something about Prince. I was talking to my friend earlier today and I told her that for me the towering figures in music as a child were Prince, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston and Madonna. To this day it's hard to hear a Whitney song. I'm inclined to believe that Prince songs will have that same affect on me. His music was and is just that damn good. The stories I've read about him are some of the funniest and most enlightening and go so far against the grain of what I could ever imagine him to be. Check out the QuestLove story it's one of the funniest.
Rest in Peace Prince and thank you for the memories.
