Spending years living in the Bronx, NY prior to his move back to Long Island Dwight led a fulfilling life that took him to various parts of the world including Japan where he helped to design shoes. Currently working for an international healthcare company, Dwight lives a quiet suburban life enjoying his garden, pets and watching sports. The Grandfather of two looks forward to being an ever present figure in the lives of his grands.
One memory that stands out when I think about my dad is the time we went to the beach right before one of the hurricanes hit. The weather was warm and muggy, truly the calm before the storm. We set up our beach chairs on the sand and watched waves roll in while sipping a beer. With each wave that hit the water would come closer and closer to our feet until it was coming underneath our chairs. I don’t remember our conversation but It remains one of my favorite days with my dad and one that I’ll always cherish.
Today as I think about my dad and honor him I think about how blessed I am to not only know him but to have him in my life. Things haven’t always been perfect with us but I know that at the end of the day there’s a bond and love for one another that as a young girl I would’ve thought unimaginable. Grateful to honor Dwight Eldridge Blair for Black History Month.
